1780 British Attack on St. Louis Re-enactment
The Old Courthouse Grounds host retelling of famous Revolutionary War battle

WHAT: On Saturday, May 23, the National Park Service presents a program about the historic 1780 Revolutionary War battle that took place on the present-day Gateway Arch Grounds, in which more than 2,000 American Indians from the Great Lakes, supported by the British in Canada, travelled down the Mississippi River and attacked the Spanish Village of St. Louis.

From 10 am to 4 pm, living history volunteers in 18th-century attire will perform non-firing musket and cannon demonstrations at the Northwest courtyard of the Old Courthouse, and share with visitors the story of St. Louis’ role in the American Revolution.

Attendees will also be able to practice with the re-enactors and learn firsthand the drills taking place during this demonstration.

“We are committed to bring this unique historical storytelling experience back year after year,” said Rick Ziino, Interpretive Specialist, Jefferson National Expansion Memorial. “This particular battle played a very important role in shaping St. Louis and American history. We are thrilled to continue to invite residents and visitors to the park to witness this special retelling of our city’s past.”
