Junior Ranger Day and Camp In’ Under the Arch Part of Week’s Festivities
WHAT: In honor of National Park Week, April 19 through 27, Jefferson National Expansion Memorial invites visitors of all ages to a week full of events that discover, explore and recognize America’s national parks.
“We encourage everyone to visit St. Louis’ national parks and landmarks this week, including Ulysses S. Grant National Historic Site in Crestwood and the Lewis and Clark National Historic Trail,” said Ann Honious, Chief, Museum Services and Interpretation, Jefferson National Expansion Memorial.
Fee-free Weekend: April 19 and 20
Visitors can enjoy $3 off their Journey to the Top tram ride, or ticket to the Arch movies “Lewis and Clark: Great Journey West” or “Monument to the Dream.”
Rangers Remember Event: April 19, Museum of Westward Expansion
National Park Rangers share their memories of working in our nation’s crown jewels.

Park Guide Melissa Corsaut presents “Only in the Park Service,” covering her St. Louis career as well as serving at Bent’s Old Fort. She shares advice on her student employment, workplace stories, and how parks are a tight-knit community. |

Retired St. Louis Defense Mapping Agency cartographer Roy Gillyon reflects upon his career as a seasonal park guide at the Arch and Old Courthouse between 1965 and 1971. He shares photographs taken from the worker’s construction elevator located outside the Arch, as well as construction inside the Arch legs; and glimpses from the top. |

Junior Ranger Day and Camp In’ Under the Arch: Saturday, April 26, 1-4 pm
In celebration of National Junior Ranger Day, JNEM hosts Camp In’ Under the Arch. At this FREE “camp in” at the
Parts of the book “The Camping Trip that Changed America” will be read, recounting President Theodore Roosevelt and John Muir’s trip through Yosemite that influenced Roosevelt to double the number of national parks. Kids will learn about Native American life in the West by exploring a life-size tipi and interacting with Plains Indians living history items; and discover
National Park Week Film Series: All Week
April 20 through 27, various National Park films will be shown in the
Civil War Trading Cards and More Children’s Activities: All Week
