The National Park Service invites the public to celebrate 102 years of service during National Park Week, April 21-29, 2018. This week, visitors are encouraged to take a Tram Ride to the Top of the Arch, watch the award-winning documentary Monument to the Dream in the monument’s Tucker Theater, visit the Old Courthouse and explore its restored courtrooms and exhibit galleries, and venture around the newly renovated Gateway Arch park grounds. National Park Week also features these specific events:

JUNIOR RANGER DAY: Saturday, April 21
Kids ages 5-15 are invited to participate in Junior Ranger Day:

At the Gateway Arch:

• 9-11 a.m.: Kids ages 5-15 can be the first to earn a Junior Ranger badge featuring the new Gateway Arch National Park name by completing a Junior Ranger activity booklet. Please visit the information desk at the Arch to pick up the booklet and to take part in special ranger-led Junior Ranger programs at 9:30 a.m., 10:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m.
• 9 a.m. to noon: Meet 16-year-old Aida Frey, “the most decorated Junior Ranger in the country” in the Gateway Arch lobby. Since July 2010, Aida has visited 304 national parks, earning her Junior Ranger badge at each. Aida will also be available to sign copies of her book “America, Can I Have Your Autograph?: The Story of Junior Ranger Aida Frey,” which is available for purchase at The Arch Store.
• 11 a.m.: A special Junior Ranger swearing-in ceremony with Aida and the day’s new Junior Rangers will take place in the Gateway Arch lobby. Those who’ve completed their activity booklet will be awarded the new Junior Ranger badge featuring the park’s new name, Gateway Arch National Park.

At the Old Courthouse:

• 9 a.m.-3 p.m.: Kids can take part in a variety of activities, including dressing up like a park ranger and getting their photo taken, completing a NPS map activity and completing a Junior Ranger activity booklet to earn a Gateway Arch National Park Junior Ranger badge. (Also offered Sunday, April 22.)
• 10 a.m.-2 p.m.: Former Gateway Arch National Park Ranger Nancy Hoppe, author of an article in the book “The Wonder of It All: 100 Stories from the National Park Service,” will be signing copies of the work in the Rotunda. (Also offered Sunday, April 22 from 1-3 p.m.)

Please note: Kids can complete the booklet at any time to earn a Gateway Arch National Park Junior Ranger badge.

FEE-FREE DAY: Saturday, April 21
To celebrate the start of National Park Week, Saturday, April 21 is a fee-free day at all national parks. At the Gateway Arch, visitors can enjoy $3 off adult Tram Ride to the Top tickets and free Arch Entry-Only tickets.

PARKRX DAY: Sunday, April 29; 8:30 a.m. to noon
Visitors of all ages are invited to Luther Ely Smith Square at Gateway Arch National Park for ParkRx Day, a nationwide initiative that encourages everyone to start seeing visits to parks and public lands as very important to human health. Gateway Arch National Park will be joined by the Mayor’s Office of Sustainability, Bi-State Development, Gateway Arch Park Foundation and Ulysses S. Grant National Historic Site in hosting various activities that showcase how people can make parks part of their healthy habits. All events are free.

At ParkRx Day, kids ages 5-15 can take part in the Junior Ranger program and earn a Junior Ranger badge. Those of all ages are encouraged to take the City Nature Challenge, where they will use the iNaturalist app to observe and identify native species to Gateway Arch National Park. Visit the ParkRx Day activity table in Luther Ely Smith Square to pick up a Junior Ranger activity booklet or to start the City Nature Challenge.

Special ParkRx Day events include:

• All event long: Medical students will take heart rate readings and write “prescriptions” incorporating the parks on special ParkRx prescription pads.
• 8:30-9:30 a.m.: Yoga session for all ages under the Arch, presented by Yoga Buzz.
• 9:30-10 a.m. & 10:30-11 a.m.: Intro to CrossFit workout sessions, led by CrossFit Kirkwood.
• 11-11:30 a.m.: Walking tour of the Gateway Arch park grounds, highlighting the recent CityArchRiver project renovations, including the renovated Luther Ely Smith Square, the new entrance to the Museum at the Gateway Arch and the North Gateway area of the park grounds. Please meet at the ParkRx Day activity table in Luther Ely Smith Square for the tour.
