For decades, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. has inspired people across the world to act, create change, and take part in philanthropy. Join in the many celebrations across the region this month to honor his life and his legacy, and to celebrate his 90th birthday.
Dreaming in Color: Arts, Equity, and Inclusion
On Friday, Jan. 18 at 7 p.m., the Saint Louis Art Museum hosts their annual Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Freedom Celebration. Inspired by the vision and work of Dr. King and painter Kehinde Wiley, this year’s program focuses on equity and inclusion in the visual arts.
Presenters include individuals featured in the Kehinde Wiley: Saint Louis portraits, discussing their experiences being a model, occupying space in a museum, and how art history has impacted them. Registration for a free ticket is required.
The Missouri History Museum hosts a family-friendly celebration and reflection of the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on Saturday, Jan. 19 and Monday, Jan. 21, from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Activities include: discussions on making a difference in the community, yoga and movement workshops, creating peace-inspired art, meet-and-greets with local and nationally renowned authors, and sharing stories of the civil rights movement and the work of Dr. King. The MLK Community Celebration is designed for kids ages 14 and under, but all are welcome!
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday Celebration
Filmmaker, musician and activist Bree Newsome; KMOV reporter Justin Andrews; soloist and St. Louis Symphony artist in residence Brian Owens; and the St. Louis Children’s Choirs headline a lineup of inspirational presentations at the Touhill Performing Arts Center on the University of Missouri – St. Louis campus. Mark your calendars for Monday, Jan. 21 from 10 a.m. to noon for this free MLK holiday celebration.

Calling all trivia buffs! St. Louis Public Library’s Julia Davis Branch is celebrating the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with MLK trivia on Thursday, Jan. 24 from 6 to 7 p.m. Test your knowledge and learn new facts about one of the most celebrated civil rights activists.
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Commemoration: The Annual Celebration
Take part in this 31st annual MLK commemoration at the Graham Chapel on Washington University’s Danforth Campus on Monday, Jan. 21 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Enjoy special presentations from the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. essay winner and student speaker, the Rosa L. Parks Award recipient, and the Martin Luther King Jr. Youth Service Award recipient.
