It Tastes Like the Holidays in STL
It seems as though gingerbread cookies and candy canes are everywhere these days, which can only mean one thing: the return of holiday-flavored treats! It is our civil duty to you (and your taste buds) that we share a few St. Louis sweet treats that seriously taste like Christmas. Warning: delicious swirls of peppermint, chocolate and gingerbread ahead.
A Slam “Dunk”
Dunkin’ Donuts has added a new line of holiday items to its menu exclusively for its St. Louis stores. To pair with its holiday beverages, Dunkin’ Donuts has introduced the Candy Cane Crunch Donut – a donut filled with vanilla buttercreme, and topped with white icing and crushed candy canes. Or try the Boston Kreme Croissant Donut – a glazed croissant donut filled with Bavarian crème and topped with a chocolate icing drizzle.
I Scream, You Scream, We All Scream – FOR ICE CREAM!
Even in the wintertime, you can find local St. Louis creameries – like Ted Drewes Frozen Custard and Clementine’s Creamery – packed with visitors anticipating holiday-flavored offerings. Ted Drewes’ “Cindermint” concrete is a town favorite, satisfying your sweet tooth by folding candy canes into vanilla custard. Along with peppermint-flavored ice cream, Clementine’s Creamery touts “Gingerbread Love” – gingerbread ice cream with chocolate-covered gingerbread swirled in. Our mouths are watering already.
Use Your “Nog”gin and Eat This Cupcake
Nothing screams the holidays like snuggling up to the fire with a warm cup of eggnog. For a yummy twist on the classic drink, try the Santa’s Spiked Coffee Nog cupcake from Jilly’s Cupcake Bar. This vanilla cupcake is soaked in rum and topped with coffee-rum buttercream, and is just one of five holiday flavors Jilly’s is offering this month!
Oh, Fudge!
Much like the potato chip, fudge was invented on accident as a result of a “fudged” batch of caramels. We’re thankful for that American back in 1886 because we can now make smooth and creamy chocolates out of sugar, butter and milk. Lucky for fudge-lovers in St. Louis, The Arch Store at the Gateway Arch sells a delicious supply! Visit the fudge counter and pick from 12 tasty flavors – all are made fresh daily at the Arch.
Chocolate and a Cup o’ Joe – Holiday Style
Kaldi’s Coffee is now serving a plethora of holiday drinks such as its Brown Sugar Rosemary Latte and its ‘Tis the Season coffee blend. Most recently, in a collaboration with Bissinger’s Handcrafted Chocolatier, Kaldi’s introduced peppermint bark. BRB, off to pick some up at our neighborhood café.
