The Gateway Arch in 2018
We’ve got a feeling 2018 is going to be a very good year for the Gateway Arch, and here are just a few reasons why:
New entrance to the Arch. A seamless way to enter the Arch from downtown St. Louis? Comin’ right up! This July, not only will the Arch’s new museum open to the public, but visitors will enter the monument through its new glass entrance that faces the city. Get ready for amazing new views of the Old Courthouse and downtown St. Louis from inside the entrance, and fresh ways to experience every aspect of the Gateway Arch.
History comes alive. From the early days of St. Louis (think: settlers and pioneers) to the construction of the Gateway Arch and beyond, the stories from St. Louis and American history will come alive in the Arch’s new museum, thanks to interactive exhibits and a plethora of artifacts. The museum will even feature a scale model of the 1852 Mississippi Riverfront levee and replicas of a traditional French Colonial log cabin and the infamous Old Rock House. (It’s safe to say that National Park Service rangers are eager to begin their interpretive storytelling!)
Reimagined tram experience. Speaking of history If you’re taking a tram ride to the top of the Arch, then get ready to be transported to the 1960s! As part of the new tram experience, tram riders now journey through the decade in which the Arch was constructed, complete with fun ’60s highlight reels and interactive trivia. (And as a reminder, be sure to buy your tram ride to the top tickets in advance at www.gatewayarch.com/buytickets.)
More spaces, more events. With 46,000 square feet added to the Arch Visitor Center; and 11 acres of new park space and more than five miles of new pathways at the Gateway Arch grounds, there are so many more spaces for special events and National Park Service programming. We hope you can join us for all of the fun. Be sure to check our online calendar (or the Gateway Arch Park Foundation’s calendar) for upcoming happenings at the park.
July, oh, my! The opening of the Gateway Arch’s new museum isn’t the only exciting thing happening in July! After a four-year absence, Fair Saint Louis will return to its traditional home at the Gateway Arch grounds. So mark your calendars for July 4, 6 & 7, when chart-topping musical entertainment, family-friendly activities and stunning fireworks shows return to the Arch grounds. (Keep an eye out for Fair Saint Louis’ entertainment announcement this spring!)
