Walnut Street Bridge Now Open for Motorists!
An exciting development is happening downtown today: The new and improved Walnut Street bridge is re-opening for motorists!
The refurbished, wider bridge that extends over what is now Interstate 44 is open for two-way traffic. However, with the opening of this bridge comes the closing of northbound Memorial Drive between Walnut and Pine streets, and southbound Memorial between Chestnut and Market streets.
Traffic flows will reverse on Memorial between Walnut and Market and between Chestnut and Pine. Traffic in both those stretches will now travel north.
The new bridge is a key component in the construction of the Park Over the Highway for CityArchRiver 2015 project. Pedestrian access via the Walnut Street Bridge will be available in the coming weeks.
